I’m excited to share that my sweet paranormal romance, Linger, is now available! Grab a copy by going to the Books2Read link here. There are links to all the major retailers on that site.

I should mention this is a short story at 35 pages long. It’s short AND sweet. See what I did there? 😉

Blurb:

Tracey Thompson isn’t like most twenty-year-olds. She can’t wait to settle down and marry her soul mate, Noah Martin. But, when a tragic accident separates them, Tracey struggles to go on without him. To be with him again, she needs to overcome what tore them apart in the first place. Will she be strong enough to find her way back to him?

Anywho, I hope you get a chance to check it out! I’m off to get started on the third book in the Mistport Series, tentatively titled Waiting for Today. This will tell Paige’s story.

Have an awesome Saturday!

Wishes for 2023 https://melissajcrispin.com/2023/01/04/wishes-for-2023/ Wed, 04 Jan 2023 06:00:00 +0000 https://melissajcrispin.com/?p=2214 “If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.” –Jim Rohn

I found this quote to be powerful. It’s like spending your life playing the supporting actor in someone else’s story, rather than being the lead character in your own. While I don’t want to speak for anyone else, I personally don’t want to look back on my life and feel this way. I’m not big on New Year’s Resolutions. My intention for 2023 is to pick up momentum on things I started in 2022. More writing, more releases…

Sounds simple, right? Each day, get the words down. Move the WIP forward. Rinse and repeat.

I’ve let a lot of things slow down the process over time. Too many times, I’ve put other things ahead of what I want to do, and I am just so done with it. I’m determined to break that cycle this year.

Happy New Year to everyone out there. May all your dreams come true!

Cover Reveal for Linger https://melissajcrispin.com/2022/12/21/cover-reveal-for-linger/ Wed, 21 Dec 2022 06:00:00 +0000 https://melissajcrispin.com/?p=2208 I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was getting ready to re-release the first story I ever had published. This one holds a special place in my heart. I still remember how happy I felt while opening the email and discovering that my story had been accepted by the publisher. The email was from a small press called Roane Publishing, which, unfortunately, is no longer around. They were wonderful to work with. I was sad when they closed their doors a few years ago.

But, the bright side is that I get to re-introduce this story into the world. Linger is a paranormal romance short story. It will be available in both eBook and print coming January 14, 2022!

Here’s the cover:

And this is what the story is about:

Tracey Thompson isn’t like most twenty-year-olds. She’s looking forward to settling down and marrying her soul mate, Noah Martin. He had always been the one for her. She never had a doubt.

When a tragic accident separates Tracey from Noah, she struggles to go on without him. As the days wear on, she becomes aware of a chance for them to be together once again. All she needs to do is understand what tore them apart in the first place. But, overcoming this is harder than it seems. Will she be strong enough to find her way back to him?

Interesting Documentary https://melissajcrispin.com/2022/12/17/interesting-documentary/ Sat, 17 Dec 2022 06:00:00 +0000 https://melissajcrispin.com/?p=2199 As much as I love reading and writing fiction, and binging fictional TV shows and movies, I’m also really into watching documentaries. It’s true that a lot of times truth is stranger than fiction. I find it fascinating to learn about people who have lived extraordinary (or in certain cases infamous) lives, or to see a major event re-told from a different perspective.

I watched one on HBO Max the other day called The Fastest Woman on Earth. It was filmed over the course of seven years and it follows Jessi Combs’ quest to break the women’s land speed record.

The blurb about the film calls it “equal parts heartbreaking and inspiring” and I would have to agree with this sentiment. I had watched Jessi Combs on TV throughout the years on many TV shows. Long before she was on Myth Busters and more mainstream shows, I had seen her on Xtreme 4×4 and other similar shows. In case you’re wondering, my husband was really into these types of shows, so I don’t want people to think I can build off-road vehicles or replace an engine. I can’t. But, for all the hours I’ve watched, I should have more to show for it! But I digress…

Jessi thrived in a male dominated world and showed women of all ages that they can be whatever they want to be. I really enjoyed watching this and I would highly recommend it!

Pajama and Book Drive https://melissajcrispin.com/2022/12/14/pajama-and-book-drive/ Wed, 14 Dec 2022 06:00:00 +0000 https://melissajcrispin.com/?p=2191 Every year, a friend of mine sponsors a holiday pajama and book drive. She collects new pajamas and books for kids from infant to eighteen years old. The items then get donated to a local organization and distributed to kids in need. I think it’s awesome that she has done this for several years.

As a YA author, I can’t help but target my donation towards teenagers. I’m glad that I did, too, because it turns out they were the age group in greatest need for the local chapter. Pictured below is what I bought for this year. I hope that it brightens a kid’s day.

Norwalk Public Library Indie and Local Author Celebration https://melissajcrispin.com/2022/12/12/norwalk-public-library-indie-and-local-author-celebration/ Mon, 12 Dec 2022 12:25:33 +0000 https://melissajcrispin.com/?p=2181 I had heard about the Norwalk Indie Author event from authors I met at the Woodbury Public Library. Since it was another opportunity to get out there and meet other authors and readers, I decided to participate. I showed up at the library on Saturday, November 5th and joined eighty other authors for the day. Not everyone came outside for the group photo, but this gives an idea of the turnout. Please excuse my squinty eyes. The sun was super bright. It was also unseasonably warm for November.

Unlike the Woodbury event, I had something new to display on my table. I was able to get paperback copies of Longing for Yesterday published and printed in time. It gave me a quasi deadline to get the novella out the door. I was happy. I made good on my promise to myself to get back into the writing world.

Now that 2022 is winding down, I’ll need to look into other events I can join in the new year. In the meantime, I’ll keep on writing…

Indie Author Day at the Woodbury Public Library https://melissajcrispin.com/2022/11/29/woodbury-public-library/ Tue, 29 Nov 2022 00:01:43 +0000 https://melissajcrispin.com/?p=2086

Back in September, I had the pleasure of participating in the first ever Indie Author Day at the Woodbury Library. My hats off to Marla Martin and all the lovely staff at the library. They put on a great event!

It had been quite literally years since I had participated in an author event. I had my doubts about whether I should go. I had no new releases to show off, so I had a strong case of imposter syndrome. At the encouragement of a few of my fellow author friends, I decided to go for it anyway. I’m grateful for their advice. Sometimes, I can’t seem to get out of my own way and they all gave me the kick in the butt that I needed. After all, even though I didn’t have anything new to display, I did have books and I still wanted to share them with readers.

I enjoyed getting back out there and meeting other local authors. It was exactly what I needed to get back into the swing of things.

Upcoming Cover Reveal! https://melissajcrispin.com/2022/11/27/upcoming-cover-reveal/ Sun, 27 Nov 2022 10:00:00 +0000 https://melissajcrispin.com/?p=2076

Happy Sunday! I’m getting ready to re-release my paranormal romance, Linger. This story has a special place in my heart because it is the first story I ever got published. It is a short story that was originally part of an anthology called Summer’s Sweet Embrace, published by a small indie press called Roane Publishing. When Roane closed their doors a few years ago, I was given my rights back. It took me a bit of time to get my writing and my routine back on track. Better late than never!

The story takes place in the small, fictional town of Mistport, NY. This is the same setting as my recent release, Longing for Yesterday. Linger is about Noah and Tracey finding their happily ever after, while Longing for Yesterday gives readers insight into Marlene’s story.

I have other stories brewing in this world. As of right now, I’m planning two other novellas.

I will be doing a cover reveal for Linger soon. Stay tuned!

‘Tis the Season https://melissajcrispin.com/2022/11/27/tis-the-season/ Sun, 27 Nov 2022 03:49:28 +0000 https://melissajcrispin.com/?p=2071 With Thanksgiving behind us, the holiday season is officially here. I thought I’d kick it off by watching Christmas movies on Netflix. I finished watching From Scratch a few days ago, and I needed something more lighthearted after that! It was a great show, but I felt like my heart was getting ripped out of my chest in the second to last episode. These two movies fit the bill. They were cute and funny.

I can’t remember the last time I watched a movie with Freddie Prinze Jr. in it. She’s All That is what pops into my head when I think of him.

As for Lindsay Lohan, she’ll always be Cady from Mean Girls to me!

Maybe I’m dating myself by saying associating these actors with movies that are pretty old, but hey, it is what it is!

A New Chapter https://melissajcrispin.com/2022/10/18/a-new-chapter/ Tue, 18 Oct 2022 11:58:53 +0000 https://melissajcrispin.com/?p=1797 After an extended pause on my writing journey, I’m back. I’ve been writing every morning, connecting (and re-connecting in some cases) with author friends, and attending events. It’s been challenging at times – but in a good way. I’ve missed the creative energy and the joy of creating something all my own.

I can’t lie. In the last few years when I wasn’t writing, I blamed my circumstances for the cause. I was too busy, my day job was too stressful and too hard, I had too many “more important” things to do. The list goes on. At the end of the day, I wasn’t making writing a priority. Maybe that was the right thing to do at the time, but the right thing for me right now, is to write.

I’m done making excuses to myself. This applies to writing, sure, but it applies to so much more than that. I have been doing my best to asses what brings me happiness and trying to incorporate these things into my life. It hasn’t been easy, but it is slowly getting me to where I want to be, one teeny, tiny baby step at a time.

So, what have I been up to recently?

I’m working on a Robin Hood retelling, where Marian is the hero in the story. Similar to The Crimson Curse, this will have an unexpected twist.

I’m working on re-releasing my work that was previously published under Roane Publishing. My second chance romance, Unforeseen Circumstances, was originally included in a winter themed anthology. I’ve renamed it to Longing for Yesterday and I will be publishing it later this month. I’m anxiously awaiting a new cover. Fingers crossed I’ll get to see a preview today.

I am revisiting this site and making updates where necessary. I’ll admit, I have a bit of work to do here!

That’s it for now. More to come soon. Thanks for stopping by!
