As much as I love reading and writing fiction, and binging fictional TV shows and movies, I’m also really into watching documentaries. It’s true that a lot of times truth is stranger than fiction. I find it fascinating to learn about people who have lived extraordinary (or in certain cases infamous) lives, or to see a major event re-told from a different perspective.
I watched one on HBO Max the other day called The Fastest Woman on Earth. It was filmed over the course of seven years and it follows Jessi Combs’ quest to break the women’s land speed record.
The blurb about the film calls it “equal parts heartbreaking and inspiring” and I would have to agree with this sentiment. I had watched Jessi Combs on TV throughout the years on many TV shows. Long before she was on Myth Busters and more mainstream shows, I had seen her on Xtreme 4×4 and other similar shows. In case you’re wondering, my husband was really into these types of shows, so I don’t want people to think I can build off-road vehicles or replace an engine. I can’t. But, for all the hours I’ve watched, I should have more to show for it! But I digress…
Jessi thrived in a male dominated world and showed women of all ages that they can be whatever they want to be. I really enjoyed watching this and I would highly recommend it!
