I’m a fan of Amy Plum’s Revenants series, so I had high hopes for this book.
The beginning intrigued me, and I enjoyed the mix of the sci-fi apocalyptic world with magic and romance. I liked that Juneau was headstrong, and did everything she could to search for her clan, even though she felt betrayed.
As the story went on, the pace didn’t pick up as much as I had hoped it would, but it was interesting enough to keep on listening to see what happens. I was disappointed by the ending. The cliff hanger isn’t what bothered me though. I just felt like not enough had been resolved. I’m on the fence about picking up the second book.
Overall, I’d give the book 3.5 stars. I would consider it slightly better than average, and probably would have rated it a 4 right up until the end. I thought it was pretty unique, so if you’re looking for a mashup of different YA genres and something a little out of the ordinary, this one might be for you.

I’ve been wanting to write this post for weeks, but it’s been hard to find the right words and I need to get them just right.
An hour after I published my announcement about Collide getting published with Evernight Teen, I received devastating news. News which two months later still breaks my heart, and will have a lasting effect forever.
My brother passed away unexpectedly in his sleep. At first, I thought what most people would in my shoes. No way. Not possible. There must be some kind of mistake. He was only forty-four, was not ill, and had no health issues that I was aware of. How could something like this happen? It’s not fair that he’s gone. It just isn’t.
My brother was a thoughtful, generous soul, one I wish I appreciated more when he was around. He knew that I loved him, but I regret not having done more for him and with him, and I’ll never get the chance to do that over. Not a day has passed where I haven’t thought of him, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon, if ever.
I miss him dearly. It’s odd to no longer get text messages from him, or to hear his voice on the other side of the phone. But, probably the weirdest thing of all is that I can almost deal with missing him. It’s knowing that he’s never coming back that really hurts.
What I’m about to say is totally cliché, but it’s never felt more true to me. Hug your loved ones. Tell them and show them how much they mean to you, because you never know which time will be the last.
When I started sharing the horrible news, I received encouraging words from a writing friend. She had lost her mother two years earlier right around the same time of year, and her insight had comforted me more than she probably knows. She encouraged me to grieve, and to not expect any sort of “normal” until a new normal finds its way past the pain. Thank you, Sharon, for reminding me that, at some point, things will feel okay again.
And, so I go on, searching for my new normal…
Happy New Year! I hope that your holidays were filled with lots of fun, with plenty of time for some good old-fashioned R&R on the side. The last week has been filled with much jolly good cheer for me, and I’m now trying to get back to the routine, which means cookies are no longer acceptable at breakfast, lunch, and dinner (but it sure was good while it lasted).
And now, for my big news…My YA Fantasy novel, Collide, is going to be published by Evernight Teen in late winter/early spring of 2016. That’s only a few months away! I am SO EXCITED! I’m listed on the Coming Soon page here: http://www.evernightteen.com/coming-soon/.
That’s all for now, but I will continue to share more details as they become available. Watch out, 2016. Here I come!!
I am gearing up for the RWA 2015 Conference that starts this Wednesday. This will be my first time attending, and I’m really looking forward to it.
I have already put in time to get ready for my editor and agent pitch appointments. The only thing left for me to do is practice my pitch throughout the week, and make sure I can deliver it without sounding like a bumbling fool.
Not only am I pumped for the chance to meet with an editor and an agent, but I’m also psyched for the opportunity to attend workshops and hone in on my craft and connect with other writers. Lucky for me, there is a First Timers’ Orientation on the first day, so I’ll be all over that. I want to make sure I get the most out of my time.
Are you a member of RWA that has been to the conference before? If so, I’d love to hear any words of wisdom you might have for me. Add a comment!
I’m getting published! Yes!
My story titled “Linger” will be included in Summer’s Sweet Embrace, a sweet romance anthology with eight different authors from Roane Publishing.
I’ve been at it for a few years now, so it feels really good to get my writing out into the world. I’m hoping it’s just the first of many! I realize there are lots of exclamation points being used in a very small space, but I feel this is cause for celebration!
Below is more information about each of the stories. A link to the official cover reveal is here.

Hi! I’m so glad you stopped by.
This is just the first of many blog posts to come. I’ll be using this space to talk about what’s new with me and what’s on my mind.
The current thing on my mind is spring! Snow is melting outside my window as I write this, and I am looking forward to setting the clocks ahead tomorrow. The longer days boost my mood. I really do enjoy winter, but this one has been especially long, and I’m definitely ready for the change. I want to take the top off my Jeep, feel the wind in my hair, and the warm sun on my skin. Ah, yes. That’s going to be soooo nice. I am in serious need of some Vitamin D.
Hope you have a lovely Saturday. I’m off to finish putting this site together. Until next time…
